The Gibraltar National Museum opens its 2026 Lecture Series with a public lecture by Professor Clive Finlayson examining the natural history of Gibraltar during the Neanderthal period. The talk will focus on the long-term coexistence and interaction between Neanderthals and hyaenas, and on the what the archaeological and palaeontological record from the Gorham's Cave Complex reveals about this shared landscape during the Late Pleistocene.

This lecture forms part of the Gibraltar National Museum’s programme marking the centenary of the discovery of the Gibraltar 2 Neanderthal child skull known as 'Flint'.

Attendance is free, but pre-registration is required as seating is limited.

About the Lecture Series

This lecture is the first in a public lecture series marking 100 years since the discovery of the Gibraltar 2 Neanderthal skull known as 'Flint'. Further lectures in the series include:
