Information

No doubt during the summer months, whether living or just visiting Gibraltar, you will want to cool off at one of the fabulous beaches that Gibraltar offers. Eastern Beach is not only the biggest beach of Gibraltar, but also has a fantastic location that will add to your swimming experience.

Awesome view of the gigantic Rock face covered slightly at the top by the "levante" cloud taken from Eastern Beach in Gibraltar.

The sandy Eastern beach runs from the north of Catalan Bay down the northeastern (Mediterranean) coast of Gibraltar joining the gigantic Rock to Spain.

On one side of Eastern Beach you will sit back in awe as you view the magnificent north face of the Rock that overshadows anything in sight. The sheer height and weightiness of the cliff is nothing short of breathtaking.

It gets better though! Eastern Beach extends all the way right up to the Gibraltar International Airport’s runway. So picture yourself either laying on the beach or having a swim as you stare in amazement at huge planes taking off and landing right before your eyes! Unreal!

At some point you may decide to grab a bite to eat or perhaps enjoy a soothing sun-downer. Right on the beach itself you will find a couple of lovely beach bar and restaurants – actually popular venues too for people wanting to dine on the beach. Close by there also is a kids playground area to keep your children busy and out of mischief.

Interesting Fact

Speaking of sun-downers, the other great plus factor of Eastern Beach is that unlike other beaches of Gibraltar that can lack sunshine for parts of the day due to the Rock’s shadow, here beach goers can enjoy sunshine throughout the entire day from sunrise to sunset.

And, just in case you were wondering, there are very well maintained and clean toilets available on site, as well as faculties to enable people with disabilities to access the beach. The surrounding urban area is mainly residential and nicely kept.

Taking the bus there from the Market Place terminus is really fast, with only a minutes’ walk or so from the bus stop where you get off. During the summer months there are also Beach Volleyball tournaments and events that are held on the beach, adding to the entertainment and enjoyment of your visit.

If you are looking for some decent leg room and all round beach fun during summer, I highly recommend Eastern Beach in Gibraltar. Its the biggest and longest of all the beaches on the Rock, and my personal favourite. My kids go wild every time a plane comes down to land or take off. Its actually quite a thrill lying there on the beach and watching a boeing jet fly in just overhead. Nice places ...
