15th International Meeting of ADHILAC in Gibraltar

The 15th International Meeting of ADHILAC takes place from 9 to 13 September 2026 at the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, Gibraltar.

The meeting theme is The history of mobility in the Atlantic and the Pacific: people, goods, ships, ideas and routes between continents and islands. It is the first time the Association of Latin American and Caribbean Historians, ADHILAC, celebrates its International Meeting in Gibraltar, presenting the Rock as a historic meeting point between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

The programme explores mobility across the Atlantic and Pacific worlds, including:

  • Indigenous mobility and movements of people, ideas and routes.
  • Shipbuilding, ships, trade and transport infrastructures.
  • Migration, slavery, exile and colonial or territorial mobility.
  • Interoceanic communication and exchanges of animals, foods, viruses and bacteria.

Specific topics include:

  • Women in Atlantic and Pacific mobility.
  • Jewish movement between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Exile and migration during wars and dictatorships.
  • Mobility during independence conflicts, submerged heritage, pilgrimage, tourism and religious orders.

Local Gibraltar themes include:

  • Campo de Gibraltar entrepreneurs and commercial networks.
  • British Gibraltar as a migration platform.
  • Memories of the World War II evacuation.
